Review of Buzkashi Boys (2012) by Nick M — 02 Jun 2013
A well-shot, well acted short out of Afghanistan about two young boys, one a blacksmith's son, the other living on the streets, as they deal with fate, ambition, fear, courage, fun, and sadness. Well there are things to like about this film, ultimately, it doesn't really offer any new insight into the genre aside from maybe the location.
It's a fairly standard coming of age film that, ultimately, feels a little disjointed when it seems to abandon many of the themes it sets up. Still, credit to the young actors, Fawad Mohammadi and Jawanmard Paiz, for their very strong and honest performances.
