Review of Butterfly and Sword (1993) by Richard J — 13 Jun 2009
A loves B who loves C who loves D. A, B and C are all assassins. D hasn't noticed this because she isn't very bright. C also loves E but she's disappeared. A, B and C are trying to kill F for G who in turn is looking after H for I, although F, G and H all may not be who they seem, and none of the above seem to like I.
A, B, C, E, F, F's eldest son, G and H are all kung fu masters which means they can fly through the air with the greatest of ease and kick people's heads off of their shoulders in a messy fashion.
D hasn't noticed this either for aforementioned reasons. All of these characters (and all of their back stories), all of the twists and all of the fights are squashed into a slight 88 minutes. To say it's confusing is an understatement.
At one point, some people tried to kill D and I'm fairly sure it was never explained who they were. Maybe it was just because she was annoying. On a side note, Michelle Yeoh, is great, and it is my sincere wish that she appear in better films some day.
