Review of BUtterfield 8 (1960) by Jay M — 23 Jun 2007
It feels like a 50's nudie, to be perfectly honest. The quality of the film is not quite great (au contraire), but, as usual, Liz lights up the screen as she enters a room. However, it's not her best performance (though she proves, once again, how fantastic she is at handling drama) but everybody knows it was a pity vote anyway (she had recently gone through surgery).
I still think her first Oscar should've been for Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, which was her first nomination. Recommended only for Elizabeth Taylor fans, and for merely historic purposes. "Ma, face it! I was the slut of all time!".
