Review of Butter (2012) by Sam B — 23 Jun 2013
A very low budget film that was a lot better than I intended it to be. The story is simple, it revolves around butter carving and the characters who are involved with doing so. You get a very good Jennifer Garner who plays a crazy lady who just wants to be on top of the butter carving world and who will do anything to accomplish that.
Also Olivia Wilde, who plays a stripper, who all she wants is her money that Ty Burrell's character owes her from engaging in sexual intercourse with her, and who just so happens to be Garner's husband.
The best performance though goes out to Yara Shahidi, who plays Destiny, a young foster child who's adopted by Rob Corddry and Alicia Silverstone's character. She's been on the move from family to family her whole life, and the only thing she wants in life is to be successful at something, little did she know that it would be butter carving.
There's a lot of heart in this film, lots of quirky laughs, and some sexual encounters that flip the story a few times. It's a decent film, and it's definitely low budget, but it's one that you can enjoy if you go in with low expectations.
3/5 JD.
