Review of Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid (1969) by Marcus W — 04 May 2009
I am not a fan of westerns at all, but this film isn't a western it's a whole bunch of different genres all tossed into one and that's solely down to Goldman (and the script is delicious). Everytime it seems as though the film might find a balance and settle it switches and goes off in a completely different direction.
The leads are great - especially Redford, Bacharach's score compliments the mish-mash of tones perfectly and Conrad Hall keeps it looking good. The best western that isn't technically a western that I've ever seen.
