Butch and Sundance are likable characters, sure, but often I found myself rooting against them. I mean, here are two guys who exist only to fill their pockets with money that other people earned. And later on, other people had to die so they could continue doing what they were doing.

Doesn't really matter how funny or cool they were, or how close their friendship was. So yeah, I'd say the ending was about right.
