Review of Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid (1969) by Ricardo O — 27 Jul 2010
This could possibly be the greatest of all buddy films (George Roy Hill's later "The Sting", also starring Newman and Redford, might be the only other film that can compare). It mixes typical western themes with plenty of humor to spare and a poignant but satisfying ending.
The Oscar winning screenplay is filled with plenty of one-liners and George Roy Hill's direction is in full display. It also has wonderful cinematography by the legendary Conrad Hall and a good score, not to mention an unforgettable song in "Raindrops Keep Falling On My Head", by Burt Bacharach that help turn this biopic of two legendary American gunslingers into one of the rare Hollywood films that is as artistic as it is entertaining.
It is a must see film for all movie lovers, not to mention one of the all time box office top grossing films. A great western for the ages! 10/10.
