Review of Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid (1969) by Yo-Yo A — 27 Aug 2010
A couple of train robbers are outlaws and must outrun the authorities who want to make them pay for their crimes. However these men can only run for so long and so far in this great Western. This might be my favourite Western yet (although I've only seen a handful), due to the great performances by Paul Newman as Butch and Robert Redford as Sundance.
The banter between them was priceless. The relationship between them was what drove the story; Butch being care free and reckless whilst Sundance being grounded and somewhat responsible. At times I did crave for more violence in the film as it was in places quite lighthearted and slightly camp with the jolly music.
However when the altercations arrived, they did so with great vigour. At some parts of the film the picture resembled photographs which was a nice touch. Oh, I almost forgot to say that it has in my opinion one of the best endings ever.
A great film despite being kinda old.
