Review of Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid (1969) by Ryan L — 04 May 2012
This movie represents everything good about American cinema. Beyond just being one of my absolute favorite movies of all time, it is plainly one of the best movies ever made. Why it is so good is simple.
Sure the script is great, and the directing is as good as any, but what this movie comes down to is simply Paul Newman and Robert Redford. Now Paul Newman is hands down one of the coolest people ever to walk the earth, and Robert Redford is right up there with him.
Redford's Sundance Kid ranks among my Top 5 favorite performances of all time, and its towards the top of that small list. These two have a connection that is hard to find on screen, these two are true friends, and that relationship shows on screen.
This is a movie that makes me want to go out and make movies, it is one of those movies that drove my interest in film. I think it is impossible to have more fun watching a film then you do watching Butch Cassidy.
This movie introduced the world to Robert Redford, and the iconic pairing of himself and Paul Newman. It's no wonder then that almost 45 years later, it's still one of the most influential movies of all time.
