Review of But Not for Me (1959) by Frances H — 01 Jul 2014
A nice little film comedy, but dated for 1959--the screen play was from 1935, the era when Broadway and Hollywood did this sort of thing so well. They were still doing it well in 1959, but the audience had changed by then, and this sort of plot.
Line was sadly outdated, the last of a long line of naive comedy of manners that no longer existed. Carroll Baker's next big hit, The Carpetbaggers. was more a sign of the times. Clark Gable would do The Misfits and then die. Hollywood was changing and would never go back. An era had ended and this sort of film was it's dying gasp, albeit a pleasant one.
