Review of But I'm a Cheerleader (2000) by Liam C — 16 Nov 2013
Perhaps I'm a bit simple but I wasn't really aware that this was a satire until someone told me, well, that's untrue, I did see what they were doing some of the time but other times it did seem like it was trying to be serious.
I just thought that it was just another stereotypical portrayal of homosexuals. The leading ladies felt fleshed out but the homosexual men seemed really two-dimensional and silly. I also felt like the whole concept of the film was preposterous but that works in the films favor and I laughed quite a few times I also thought that the acting from Natasha Lyonne was brilliant! It kept me interested and it made me smile.
It was a nice movie that had a deep underlying message.
