Review of Buster's Mal Heart (2017) by Luke C — 28 Aug 2017
If you've watch USA's Mr. Robot, then you know that Rami Malek is an amazingly underrated actor so when I heard about his first staring role in a film I got kinda excited for it. Buster's Mal Heart is a tale of a man's paranoia over the Y2K bug, and the chaotic progression that lead him to it.
The film perfectly captures the madness the of the character's mind. There is a certain scene that kinda talks down to the audience about the meaning of the film, there was one close up shot of a vending machine that felt unnecessary, and there is main character does make quite an idiotic decision that's only there to push the plot.
Rami Malek is still a great actor, but he is playing the same character like usual; an introvert with some sort of mental illness going against society. I wish his roles could have more variety in them.
Buster's Mal Heart is a great underrated surreal mystery with probably one of the best staring role of the year.
