Review of Bus Stop (1956) by James G — 14 Sep 2007
Old-fashioned romantic comedy - Murray's relentless attempt to aggresively court Monroe and drag her up the aisle against her will like a one-man Seven Brides For Seven Brothers is demanding, as you just want him to give Marilyn a break, but stick with it - the climax and resolution at the titular bus stop is mostly rewarding.
Monroe's character could be a paper-thin stereotype but she imbues her performancer with purity and truth, possibly because the character (small town girl, more sinned against than sinning) is one of the closest to the real-life Norma Jeane.
