Review of Bus 174 (2002) by Felice T — 16 Dec 2006
This real life documentary released a lot of emotions in me. The strongest emotion I found in me was sympathy and sadness! This movie gives you an insight into the lives of young brazillian kids living in the slums homeless, parentless and moneyless! Their struggle is one that kills me to witness! In a world where the people choose to see right through them, Their invisbility forces them to commit crimes to survive! This documentary focuses on one man who grew up in the slums after his parents were killed by cops in front of him. He was also a survivor of a massacre of street children in 93.
He wanted to better himself even with his haunting past but society failed him, just like thousands upon thousands that are today!
His desperate needs placed him into a desparate situation where he armed himself and hijacked the bus 174.
The documentary also shows just how incompetent the policing is in brazil!
The story being told is much larger than the focused hijacking. Its a vicious circle where poverty and awful abuse, forces these kids into violence and into violent young men and women!
Needs to be watched!
