Review of Bus 174 (2002) by Aka Your Friend M — 15 Jul 2008
A highly interesting and emotional look into the hijacking of this bus and the background behind it. The film quite adaptly demonstrates that if you delve into even the most seemingly dangerous and unfeeling criminal it is hard not to be moved by his plight.
The film details the police incompetence, the brutality and injustice of Brazil's law enforcement system and the harsh life of the 'invisible' street children in a society that regards them as little more than garbage.
In this sense the film seeks to portray Sandro the hijacker as a figure head for the deep rooted circular society problems, and an symbol of the ignored problems surfacing before being crushed down again into invisibility.
A highly thought provoking and emotional watch.
