Review of Burnt Money (2000) by Benjamin T — 22 Sep 2007
I give it 7 stars! Plata Quemada (Burnt Money) is based on a true story that took place in South America in 1965. It's about two men who turn to crime, bank robbery, and murder, holding Argentina and Uruguay in suspense as they lead the authorities on a two-month-long manhunt.
The two men are in a loving relationship. One is bisexual and the other is schizophrenic. The director delicately balanced the gripping action with the tender romance. Whether the heroes are in pain, crying, hearing voices, or shooting cops, you can feel the strong bond between them, and you will definitely cheer for them, regardless of your sexual orientation.
This is my favorite Latino movie. I've watched it 4 times already (3 of them without reading the sub-titles). Did I mention the music?!
