Review of Burnt Money (2000) by Ian B — 21 Nov 2007
If you understand spanish as a native speaker does, you'll have a greater appreciation for plata quemada: there are times when subtext is lost due to imprecise and incompatible translation.
That said, the performances were great and the story generally intriguing. but even though the movie started strong, it became less interesting over time. it seemed that the emotional intrigue and depth that had been so present throughout was forgotten and traded in for the "violence," leaving the end to unfold in a patently uncompelling manner that didn't do the rest of the movie justice.
