Review of Burnt Money (2000) by Garrick J — 01 Jun 2008
I don't think I have been so surprised in years with the strength of a foreign language film.
Based on a real life story, it follows the lives of two South American hard-core mobsters who are in love with each other. The struggle to love through pain and mental instability is beautifully portrayed in this film.
The strong erotic theme that is linked with violence runs through the story, and the pain that comes because of the love of the two men for each other is sensitively handled.
I thought about this movie for days, layers in the story developing as I mulled over it. Cleverly written and wonderfully filmed, it has the most erotic Thelma and Louise type ending, which left me completely wrung out.
