It's the critics that lack heart, not the movie. The story is cohesive and thematic. The performances were compelling. Yes, the food looked enticing (or glossy--whatever), but the movie really wasn't about the food at all.
And in the end, there's a message. I don't want to ruin it for others who want to experience it for themselves, so I'll leave it at that, but I thoroughly enjoyed this movie.
