Review of Burnt (2015) by Abhinandhan D — 08 Nov 2015
Burnt is directed by John Wells and has a star studded cast which has Bradley Cooper,Sienna Miller,Daniel Bruhl in leading roles. I was excited to see this movie because Chef was one of my favourite films of 2014 and I enjoy watching movies based on food.
Unfortunately Burnt is not so much about the food but a by the numbers redemption tale of a Chef who used to be on top but is now at the bottom and is trying to make his way to the top by earning a third michelin star.
Burnt is only entertaining because of its performances. Other than that we have seen this movie a thousand times before and it plays out exactly like you would expect it to. I wish the script had focused more on the cooking instead of the main character's redemption and I was also annoyed with the unnecessary romance between Sienna Miller and Cooper.
Why can't colleagues just be friends? I really don't get why they have to force a romance between the two when it adds nothing to the overall plot. I also have no idea why this was marketed as a comedy when its more of a drama.
All in All, Burnt is mildly entertaining due to its performances and worth watching if you really have nothing else to do. C+.
