Review of Burnt (2015) by Jeremy D — 02 Jan 2016
It's one of those movies that you "just wish was better".
Bradley Cooper is great a playing a First Class prick and he does it well here but many of the story arcs, we've seen before in other "culinary driven" films and/ or television shows: Dinner Rush, Big Night and Whites.
Well, lit, beautifully shot, food look great. The problem is, Bradley Cooper is based upon mythos of what "Perfection Driven Chef's" are like. As Alex Jones, he is such an unsavory prick... When the redemption(s) come... He is a character entirely undeserving of such kindnesses and manufactured deus ex-machina, you are left wondering "why would anyone take a kindness to this jack-hole?" And any "redemption as a man" he experiences is through a montage.
And, except for being the "Yelly, screamy" chef, I'm not convinced if Cooper really CAN cook.
Decently acted but a script loaded with too many cliches, and doesn't do a service to cooking nor passion of. It just feels like you've seen so much of this before and nothing original.
