Review of Burnt (2015) by Steve Z — 09 Jan 2016
Sort of a polished foodie retelling of the Silver Lining Playbook, but this time it is Substance Abuse and a ego that our Bradley Cooper is suffering from trying to bounce back from and not mental illness, and there is no beating heart of Jennifer Lawrence emminating from the love interest in Sienna Miller, although the cameo of the much more engaging Alicia Vikander could have put much more life into this project if she had more time in the proceedings.
Alas we are just left with Coopers hard put upon friend Daniel Bruehl trying to help him pick up the pieces for that ever elusive 3 star for his cooking which was what apparently cemented his downfall into despair two and a bit odd years ago.
Unfortunately Coopers character doesn't appear to have enough of a turn around for me to truely feel for him or indicate he has earned redemption, just that it was almost handed to him on the proverbial silver platter, allowing him to go phew that was a close one.
All you get is a couple of shots of very ornate food and a lovely Vikander and that is about it. You are almost better just to go off to the theatres and see her in Man from UNCLE or the Danish Girl instead which are more deserving of your attention.
Downer.
