Review of Burlesque (2009) by Clarke D — 08 Jul 2011
Burlesque got roundly panned by the critics, yet the audiences for the most part liked it. It's entertainment, pure and simple, flawed and cliched, with singing and dancing. I liked it. Much has been said of Cher's wooden performance.
It's Cher for crying out loud, and she played herself beautifully. This was an enjoyable two hour romp through Christine Aguilera's talented portrayal of a wanna be dancer who achieves her goal, and gets the guy as well.
Yes, it's a "woman's film"; not that many guys will like to deal with the sappy parts. That said, it's a fun couple of hours in HD in front of the television on a summer's evening.
