Review of Burlesque (2009) by Josephine P — 23 May 2013
3.5/10.
This movie starts as a nice, fun movie with nice dancing and costumes, though becomes a boring, slow movie with no personality. Too much money was spent on costumes and choreography (which were good) and not enough on a good plot. Too much mucking about between Ali and Jack. The plot is recycled and clichéd: poor girl from small town, goes to the big city, becomes rich and successful and eventually, after a few bumps, finds love. That's it. Christina Aguilera and Cam Gigandet (Ali and Jack) are pretty alright, and Cher is actually very good, along with the brilliant Stanley Tucci. I personally think Burlesque is an egotistical movie with unlikeable characters that falls completely flat halfway in.
