Review of Burlesque (1932) by Jessi H — 25 May 2012
I just can't get behind a character who goes to perform in Hollywood and ends up enchanted by a small burlesque lip-syncing night club??? Just did not work... "Hey, look at that girl in a thong sticking her ass out.
.. I wanna be just like her!" (while she carries around a picture of her when she was 7 and her mother) Aguilera's singing is great as always. I like her in that 1940 and 50s vibe. The story was just TOO long and too much skin for me.
Musicals audiences are mostly girls... none of whom want to see other girls half naked. Sorry! Get the cast of Avengers to dance... then we'll talk.
