Review of Burke & Hare (1972) by Bob L — 02 Nov 2010
With Pegg and Landis being the headliners for this, I expected some out and out gaffaws, but all it left me with was an internal smile. The slapstick is handled well and is very dark, but apart from moments of fun and cameo spotting (this really is Landis's who's who) the 3rd quarter of this seems to drag for the sake of storytelling, and the laughs peter out a bit.
Pegg holds his accent alot better than in Star Trek, and Serkis proves a good foil for him. Tim Curry strangely underplays his role, and there are some weird cameos by Michael Winner, Jenny Agutter and Ray Harryhausen.
There is a good use of the British talent (Ronnie Corbett is great), but I was missing Landis's trademark big sequences, and so it feels like a small theatre production.
