Review of Burden of Dreams (1982) by Gregory W — 02 Jul 2008
Les Blank's fascinating chronicle of the struggle to bring Werner Herzog's Fitzcarraldo to the screen. Right up there with Hearts of Darkness as far as documentaries on the making of a film is concerned.
Unflinching and not always flattering, watch as Herzog's film goes through setback after setback, leaving even the filmmaker himself wondering if finishing is even worth it. There's one thing for sure, they don't make 'em like they used to.
