Review of Burden of Dreams (1982) by Kyle V — 15 Aug 2009
Confirms what i've already known about Mr. Herzog: He is the most ambition-driven directorI have ever seen. He's not so much of a perfectionist director like Kubrick of Kurosawa...but he's the director that wants to be a part of everything in the filmmaking business. In this, you see him as part of his crew (which, by the way, are made up mostly of local native indians from around the area he was shooting.).
Not many directors can say they have moved a boat over a mountain....but Herzog, without using illusions or CGI...ACTUALLY moved a steamboat...over a mountain. He does it all without having a mental breakdown....he does it all with a calm expression on his face...almost always layed back.
