Review of Bunty Aur Babli (2005) by Srk 4 — 27 Jun 2007
How in the WORLD Is this movie R? It's bollywood! Um...wait! They kiss? Does that make the movie R? weird.
Anyway, so I think I'm the only person ever who didn't really like it. It was kind of funny, and the three leads did great jobs...
But...I usually love songs in Bollywood, but these just seemed to drag for me...and for the second time ever (the first was Mohabbatien), I just got really sick of the songs.
I also found that, outside the songs, the movie was just trying to be too western. If anyone actually read this, they would probably vehemently oppose this, but I felt that while Dhoom 2 (and Dhoom) was western, it still kept that Indian flair, but I felt that this movie was just...half way in between, and so kind of didn't work.
Also-I'm really not one for realism in movies...usually I don't care. But one scene was just TOO MUCH. Babli goes into labor...has a kid, and they IMMEDIATELY leave the hospital (with her carrying the kid) and hop on a train and stuff. That just kind of makes me mad, you know? They could have at least been wheeling her in a wheel chair or something. Right, anyway.
Also, I felt that the movie was almost trying to be too serious. It's about a couple of goofy con artists-but every time the movie wasn't funny, they tried to lapse into this serious drama...just...not working. Oh well I would have always been curious.
