Review of Bunraku (2010) by Phil N — 21 Sep 2011
In a land ravaged by war where all firearms have been abandoned, The Woodcutter and his red suits rule. Enter two mysterious drifters (Hartnett and Gackt) who team up with the local bartender (Harrelson) to take on the tyrannous villain.
A garish, futuristic spin on the western, Bunraku is certainly ambitious but it really drags badly in the middle section. Narrative flaws aside, Guy Mosheâ(TM)s film is visually stylish, looking like a pop-up book come to life â" which actually suits the fantastical nature of the film.
