Review of Bumping Into Broadway (1919) by Sarah F — 12 Jun 2009
I'm still working my way through HL's films. Each one I watch makes me appreciate his comedic genius even more. HL's frustration with the typewriter is a hoot; running from the landlady ($3.
75 for overdue rent) is a scream; and the police raid on the speakeasy is just hilarious. Watch for the great backflip on the staircase. His hiding-in-the-coat gag never gets old. The cops do a Rodney King on one of their own, which is funny in this context.
And, of course, Harold gets the girl (Bebe Daniels) in the end (literally next to the boozing cops - it was Prohibition after all!). The more I watch films like this, the more I realize just what junk is in theaters today.
Now, onto "The Kid Brother.".
