Review of Bumblebee (2018) by Cork B — 20 Jan 2019
I occasionally watched the Transformers cartoons as kid in the 80s. I was not a huge fan, and even then thought they were kinda dumb. Or at least, thought that having car windows on your chest was odd for a space alien. In any case, then they made a bunch of transformers movies, which could only be watched if you suffered from ADHD.
This is the least dumb of all the Transformers movies I have seen. Although that bar is REALLY LOW. There is still shakeycam stuff blowed up real good where I almost wish I was watching a DC movie. And the usual stupid plot holes that if anyone took the time to think about would end movie instantly (Bumblebee can broadcast to other worlds with a car radio, but decepticons need a giant antenna that needs to control a network of satellites blah blah blah. That must be SOME car radio! And that HUGE bundle of data - that looks like an Ashton Kutcher tweet 'send army to earth' - that needs to be sent needs to be loaded into memory with a % bar).
But there are some cute scenes and the girl has to teach Bumblebee to be ... uh.. human? But basically the humans are useless.
Favorite line - Cena says to his superiors: "They literally call themselves Decepticons. That's not a red flag?".
