Review of Bumblebee (2018) by Alina K — 02 Jan 2019
This movie is fantastic. This film managed to stitch together the parts of the Retro Transformers you watched as a kid with only the best parts of Michael Bay's Series. But wait! Even If you're not a fan of the Michael Bay Transformers series I'd recommend this movie even more because it's dismantled the short action scenes that you kept going back for and lengthened them into even more intense, nail-biting action that you can still keep track of. The director, Travis Knight, emerged seemingly from little directing experience to knock this out of the park. And even the human cast, Hailee Steinfeld in particular, act believably and emotionally enough to make you tear up at points throughout the movie.
One thing that I really hope is that this isn't a prequel to Bay's movies. I know it says it does but points in the movie meant that it wouldn't really fit. Personally that's great! This movie has a much better chance at setting up a unique, flourishing franchise than it's predecessor which descended into box office hits that only struck a chord with Chinese audiences that cared more about the robot fighting than the whole premise behind it. Don't get me wrong I like to see robots blowing each other up I just like to be invested in the movie and characters too.
