Review of Bumblebee (2018) by Giorgio G — 28 Dec 2018
Well, I had read that this one goes a lot on the emotional side, of which I am no great fan, but I can deal with it. And, in fact, it isn't all too much of that and surely nothing to weep about. But what is, on the contrary, way too much is it's juvenile attitude.
With Hailee being 21 during the making of the movie one expected a younger flair, but as she was passed as a seventeen turning eighteen year old kid, the whole story moved into the teen sphere of college movie appeal.
Nothing wrong with that, for a while, but during the course of the movie jokes become more and more infantile and while this flick surely gonna please any 5-17 year old kid it's really only for the die-hard Transformer adult fan to enjoy.
The VR is absolutely mind blasting and especially Bumblebee looks so real one would actually love to touch it and interact with it. Every time there is action it really blows, and I mean that the positive way.
Starting with the opening sequence, which funnily uses language and vocals of the early cartoons series in the eighties, the visuals initiate with a bang, a big bang. Cool is the least to say. And whenever there are robot fighting scenes the movie shows its best side for any old Transformer fan, but whenever the story revolves around Hailee it's a mix of the old Herbie movies mixed with a very simple bullying college flick.
All in all it's enjoyable, but mainly for youngsters while it remains a "Take it or leave it" decision for any adult and surely a far, far cry from the last Transformers (5): The last Knight.
6/10 points (calculated with my juvenile eye).
