Review of Bumblebee (2018) by Thomas B — 26 Dec 2018
I am a huge Transformers Nerd. I'ved loved them since I was a small boy. To this day my walls decorated in the toys and to this day the only tattoo I have is of the Decepticon Insignia. I collect the comics, every television series on DVD and I even own a Transformers Monopoly board game.
That said, I have hated the Bay-former movies. They have been big, steaming, piles of horse crap on the franchise.
Bumblebee finally does a live action movie of Transformers justice. Each transformer is easily identifiable and distinguishable from one another, making it easy to track as people fight. The fights were never overwhelming to the point it looked like a jumbled mess, I could always see a clear line of action to follow. The characters were good, and there was a better balance between humans and robots. The lead female wasn't sexualized. There was no toilet humor, though the one child did throw up, it made sense, and was only visible for a second before scene cutting. I was able to get proper motivation out of all characters so I knew why each of them was doing the thing they were doing, unlike previous movies where they were always just after-some vague McGuffin.
Over all a solid movie and I want to see more like this. I really hope they just toss out the Bay-former movies and pretend they don't exist.
