Review of Bumblebee (2018) by Roger L — 20 Dec 2018
Wow... what a ride... great movie.. a vast departure from the cringe of the Michael Bay directed collection... The story was fantastic and the actors were a great choice... outside of John Cena overacting his tough guy role and Memo standing out like a sore thumb on someone's foot.
.. eventually both characters smoothed out and actually became likeable... Charlie played by Hailee Steinfeld rocked it with her performance and the family was actually enjoyable... again... towards the latter part of the film.
.. overall... it got off to a slow start but the supporting characters lended a hand with their own particular charm... The 80's setting was ideal and lent a more natural backdrop than Bay's "modern" vibe of pretentiousness.
.. it reminded me a bit of the first Karate Kid with Footloose style musical ambience! The battle for Cybertron was a great intro to what's going on with the Autobots and the Decepticons... the ending was the best one could hope for from a movie that takes itself seriously while having a little fun on the side! Looking forward to the next movie.
.. Good choice on Director Travis Knight and Writer Christina Hodson!
