Review of Bully (2001) by Jason I — 21 Oct 2007
The film is based on an incident in which a group of teenagers brutally murdered one of their friends. This is the recreation of the incident, Larry Clark style. In other words, a film in which teenagers have A LOT of sex, do A LOT of drugs, have no fun doing either, swear A LOT, and usually end up doing really stupid things.
In this film, the characters are extremely stupid and annoying. They talk about murdering their friend in such a casual way and then when they actually commit the murder(which is one of the most disgusting and awful murder scenes I've ever seen in a film), they are so ill prepared and so shocked that they did this that they get caught almost immediately.
This is a good film simply because it depicts such an honest reality of stupid teenagers and parents who don't give a crap. It's effective stuff, and it's well acted, but the characters are all horrible so the viewer will most likely feel a lot of joy in watching them all get caught.
And then even after they're caught, they still bicker and argue about who ratted out who and what they did and what they didn't do and yada yada yada, that you still hate them and are really glad that they got caught.
