Review of Bullitt (1968) by John S — 20 Oct 2008
Peter Yates' directorial style brought a naturalist, realist, sometimes almost documentary style to this 1968 cop action flick. Steve McQueen's cop-against-the-system, a hardened, quiet, intense, seemingly emotionless character, feels like a precurser to Dirty Harry.
And Bullitt delivers one of the most intensely real car chases ever committed to film. Maybe not a great film, but certainly a very good one. It's withstood the test of time and remains very watchable today.
