Review of Bullitt (1968) by Robert C — 07 Sep 2008
I grew up watching Steve McQueen films on TV. Looking back...I think he may have been my first "man-crush".
Having only ever seen his films in an "edted for TV" version, I've been slowly watching them in their complete form.
Bullitt was a little disapointing. It felt more like a very long episode of a 70's TV show then an actual film. And I feel that is suffered from a severe lack of editing.
McQueen is great as is the rest of the cast. The soundtrack is superb. And I'm sure (at the time) the story seemed top notch...but it has since been "done to death" so there were no REAL surprises. But my biggest complaint is that there are several "action scenes" that just weren't very well coordinated (or shot) and went on for far too long.
Worth seeing if you like McQueen or this genre.
