Review of Bullitt (1968) by Michael L — 25 Jul 2010
Nearly no dialogue needed in the boys want to be him, girls want to be with him McQueen classic. Steve stars as Lt Frank Bullitt, independent, uncompromising, distant gem of the SFPD - dutied to look after a key Mafia witness of Robert Vaughn's ambitious Senator Chambers.
A remarkable series of double crossings ensue, a classically structured script narrated by an incomparable score and a high dose of autoporn with the 390 Mustang, Dodge Charger and feminine 356 of Jacqueline Bisset.
McQueen becomes the model for practically the whole male race in this film, fighting the mob in a muscle car after Bisset makes you breakfast wearing your dress-shirt - too cool for school.
