Review of Bullitt (1968) by Peter H — 08 Feb 2011
BULLIT [1968]; this classic 1968 movie quite literally help defined and wrote the rule book of the modern action film. Close to 45 years after its release BULLIT still has the power to prove why it's still the original pop-corn action film thanks to classic moments like Steve Mc Queen's super cool persona on screen, the on-foot run chases across the Tar Mack of a busy runway and of course the show-stopping and heart-stopping muscle car chase up and down the hilly streets of San Francisco.
The Plot; when an important federal witness who will testify against the Chicago Mob is sent of the city of San Francisco, it's up to Police Lieutenant Frank Bullit to look after the witness. But when the witness is killed it's up to Bullit to track down the killers and Bullit (like every other action hero to follow) will not let anyone stand in his way of getting the killers.
The acting in this film is great, Mc Queen is very good in the lead role, and the direction is decent and so is the cinema-photography, but the editing is so brilliant it won an Oscar for best editing. But the real show stopper is those amazing stunts like the near-deadly muscle car chase up and down the streets of San Francisco. In fact that car chase is by far one of the greatest chases of all time, BULLIT a classic action film that will always be a great of Action cinema. The rating is a nice and solid 80% from me.
