Review of Bullets Over Broadway (1994) by Valerie R — 08 Aug 2004
I was gonna hang out with Madeline today, but she had to cancel, so I ended up going to the Uptown Art Fair with my parents and buying a cute little bug pin. I got home and took a nap, then got dressed up and back into the car with my parents to go see Phantom of the Opera.
I'd never seen the show before, so I was really excited to finally see it. My response- "meh." It was definitely a "spectacle" show, complete with pyrotechnics and all the well known numbers. The phantom had a beautiful voice that just soured up to the high notes, but his acting in a few moments was...interesting (The words "touch me" in "Music of the Night" will never again be the same). The Christine had a great voice, but was trying too hard to sound like Sarah Brightman which held her back some and the Raul was just okay. I'm happy that I saw the show, but I really have no need to see it again.
I ended my night trying to find and work on monologues for fall auditions and talking with Claremont people online, which got me super excited for the upcoming year (and the exciting version of jenga, a softball/baseball buddy, and a poker tournament with really cool people.).
I'm lunching with Madeline tomorrow, then (hopefully) seeing Harold and Kumar Go to White Castle with Laurent, and then getting together with Alex (and maybe Hannah afterwards). Yay for friends.
