Review of Bullets Over Broadway (1994) by Ben W — 29 Oct 2008
This very well may be woody allens best film without him in it. first of all, the art direction and sets are impeccable. the cast is pretty great for the most part. but its once again, allens writing that makes the most impact.
excellently plotted, some of the best dialog, and a man who knows how to execute all of it with a masters touch. palminteri is pretty good even though hes in his usual mob goon role. jennifer tilly also in her typecast role was given some hysterical lines ("labrynthinine").
no less than rob riner shows up in a few short scenes, and an early role from mary-louise parker. but its diane wiest that got the well-deserved oscar nod. a spectacular performance from her. im just amazed that allen was able to hold this plot in his head, much less figure it all out, be able to write it down, and still make it accessible to the average viewer.
thats why hes one of the best.
