Review of Bulletproof Monk (2003) by Jason J — 02 Jul 2011
The movie starts off with a well shot introduction showing you the exaggerated unrealistic type of martial arts that you are going to see quite a lot of in this movie. The sort of fighting that does not take the laws of gravity too seriously. This however is not such a bad thing as this is far from a serious martial arts movie. Veteran HK actioner Chow Yun Fat not only delivers the expected martial arts skills but is also quite funny in his role as the 'Monk with no name'. However if you're expecting the kind of standard action you may have seen in his HK movies then you're going to be disappointed. Seann William Scott supplies comedy value but also manages to look convincing during the fighting scenes.
The storyline is not complicated and is easy to follow, allowing you to just sit back and enjoy this movie for it's good points, it's quirky comedy and the entertaining fight sequences. All together, this is a movie that does not take itself too seriously and comes across as well produced piece family entertainment. I doubt it will be going straight to the top of your list of favourite movie but should keep you entertained for it's 104 minute duration.
