Review of Bullet to the Head (2012) by John M — 25 Jul 2013
Amazed that this got a theatrical release. So this is about a hitman (Sylvester Stallone) that has to team up with a cop (Sung Kang) to take down a mutual threat. Just to be clear, I'm not a fan of those generic Expendable movies; I felt ambivalent towards the first one, but the more I thought about it, the less I liked it.
With Bullet to the Head, it's just as underwhelming, as it has the inescapable vibe that it should have been released direct-to-video and the box office returns to prove it. It's just generic and by the numbers, and you see movies like this pop up all the time at Redbox.
.. except you've never heard of them before, and they usually star Nicholas Cage. Stallone is no spring chicken anymore, and unless you have a certain affinity to him growling out one-liners as gravelly as possible, there's really no reason to see this.
I do like Sung Kang as an actor here, I just wished they gave him something to do other than playing with his BlackBerry. The action isn't anything special, and I am forgetting the majority of the plot as I am typing this.
This really is just a vanilla action movie, and being that there's nothing memorable about it, why would you want to watch it in the first place?
