Review of Bullet to the Head (2012) by King Kong B — 07 Feb 2013
THE GOOD- Stallone is the best thing about this movie. He's mean-spirited and ripped (courtesy of HGH). He's also funny in a cynical way. The fight sequences are brutal and high-impact. The final fight scene is the best in the movie (a dueling axe battle). There is some good dialogue between Stallone and his reluctant partner. The characters are given some depth by explaining their backgrounds.
THE BAD- This movie reveals the whole story too quickly, leaving it nowhere to go for the last act. Storywise, it falls into a limbo and you're just waiting for the action. And that was another problem, this movie had no big action sequences (as this wasn't a big-budget movie). It was a series of minor action scenes. A big action scene would have helped pick up the slack once the story crapped out. Stallone's unwitting partner (who is a cop) threatens Stallone he will face justice for his crimes. A lanky Korean guy threatening the much more ripped and menancing Stallone looked ridiculous. Stallone took the threat as seriously as I did watching it.
THE DEAL- This is a pretty good action movie, before the story craps out, it actually had a good plot. This is a movie you may want to catch a matinee showing or wait for it on netflix/cable. You won't feel like you have been robbed of ninety minutes of your life. Also, it was good to see Christian Slater found work.
