I think that this is Costner's best performance, probably because he is very athletic and loves baseball. The movie is about an aging baseball catcher (Costner) who has spent his entire career, except for a couple of weeks, in the minor leagues.

His job with his new ball club, the Durham Bulls, is to develop a young, hard throwing pitcher (Tim Robbins), who possesses "a million dollar arm and a five cent head". And although I think that the movie is very funny, its also very tragic in that Costner's character eventually has to face the reality that his time has passed; he'll never live his dream of playing in the big leagues.

For his part, Tim Robbins is great. Susan Sarandon's character is also great. (She'd never sleep with a player batting less than .250 unless he was "a great glove man up the middle"!).
