Review of Bull Durham (1988) by The S — 16 Aug 2011
After having recently visited Cooperstown to revel in baseball past, I decided to revisit Bull Durham. A film that follows a minor league team who have a new young talented arm in "Nuke" LaLoosh (Robbins).
The team, the Durham Bulls, have acquired the services of an older veteran catcher Crash Davis (Costner) to help LaLoosh on his way to making it to the majors. Susan Sarandon plays Annie - a woman who loves baseball, and to enjoy the company of one of the young baseball players for the season and help him on his way.
The film explores a very adult and tough realities of making it in professional sport. Great humour without exaggerating too much examining much of the nuances and superstition associated with the sport of baseball.
A wonderful sports film with three terrific performances and fine script adding insight and enjoyment to the sport of baseball.
