Review of Bugsy (1991) by Scott C — 17 Jul 2010
Great gangster film that might slighly "glamourize" that mobster lifestyle just a bit; but people have to take note that this was THIS particiular gangster's life style ... not all mafia role and/or movies should have this glossy sheen to it.
A vain-but-very-good Warren Beatty (Bonnie and Clyde, Dick Tracy) plays the title role of Bugsy Seigel, the mobster who almost-single-handedly envisioned the modern day Vegas while on a trip to the desert with his moody girlfriend, played by an equally as good Annette Bening (American Beauty, Being Julia, The Grifters).
It is beautiful to look at and the moody musical score is quite lyrical to listen to. I found this to be a stunning achievement when it came out and I still believe it is a superior film. It is worth a watch for anybody interested in the mob or Las Vegas.
