A lot of jaded, seen-it-all critics often confuse originality with quality. This film is certainly original - I've never seen anything like it. Then again, I've rarely seen anything trying HARDER to be original.

and rarely seen anything so disturbing, unsettling or sick. Friedkin's certainly got some stylistic flourishes, and the first part of this is quite intriguing, but it descends into something that unbalances the initial intrigue - something either intensely uncomfortable or pretentiously overdone, depending on your perspective.
